Our Sustainability Report 2024

Our fourth Sustainability Report provides a comprehensive overview of the progress we made on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance in fiscal year 2024 and highlights the key initiatives we drive to realize our high ambition. This year, we set new commitments to expand patient impact through healthcare access, made significant progress in decarbonization in our own operations, and engaged our employees and strategic partners in creating transformative outcomes that are scalable.

Key achievements in FY 2024

We measure our progress through key performance indicators defined for the three pillars of our sustainability commitment: Healthcare Access, Resource Preservation, and Diverse and Engaged Healthineers. 

We have made strong progress this year achieving our FY25 targets a year earlier, for Scope 1 and 2 emission reduction, diversity, and external recognition. We have also set new commitments to raise the bar further for Healthcare Access and Volunteering.

3.3 billion touchpoints
Patient Touchpoints – our currency for impact: This year, we set a higher commitment for patient touchpoints to reflect the full global impact we have with our products and solutions. We aim to achieve 3.3 billion patient touchpoints worldwide, with 1.25 billion in low- and middle- income countries by 2030.

4 million training hours

In FY 2024, we provided 4 million hours of training for healthcare professionals and are on a good path to reach our goal of 6 million hours by 2030.

    Bringing Cancer Care to northeast India

    Through Healthcare Access, we advance technology, overcome barriers in low-resource settings and transform the system of care for patients who are underserved and vulnerable.
    Bringing cancer care to northeast India

    We are making progress in increasing healthcare access in remote regions especially to address non communicable diseases. Our initiative in Assam, India, serves as a good example of progress in access to cancer care in a region that struggles with it. 

    In partnership with Tata Trusts, we provided essential equipment including MRI, X-ray, and mammography systems as well as PET and CT scanners to equip the Assam Cancer Care Foundation with the resources required to provide critical, life-saving treatment to cancer patients. To complement our donations, the Foundation assembled a mobile team of dentists, nurses, and health managers. They fan out across rural areas to increase screenings, improve palliative care, and raise community awareness. Together, we are changing the landscape of cancer care across the Assam region.

    A healthy population requires a healthy planet. We are committed to take action toward the United Nations’ call to limit global warming and do this by decarbonizing and promoting a circular value chain.

    Our Technology Center Mechatronic Products in Kemnath, Germany, has been at the forefront of our efforts to address climate change. In its journey to Net Zero emissions, this site developed climate strategies that have reduced emissions by 80 percent since 2010. And we have plans for a €60 million expansion that will feature a carbon-neutral energy system, rooftop solar panels, climate-friendly landscaping, and more. Plus, we’re focused on improving eco-efficiency in manufacturing—using as few resources as possible to reduce carbon-intensive extracting, processing, and transport at the side.

    We believe that the uniqueness of our people helps us better represent and create impact for the diverse patients and communities we serve worldwide.

    We extended our Healthineers Forum survey and invited employees to voluntarily share aspects of their personal identities and characteristics. The feedback we received has been invaluable and will help us refine policies, enhance accessibility, and create more tailored recognition programs. By listening to our people and responding to their needs, we are building an inclusive workplace that enables every employee to thrive.
