Senator Breaux Seeks Common Ground on Health Care Reform with Former Presidential Press Secretaries McCurry and Fleischer

Latest 'Ceasefire' Podcast Focuses on Communicating
with Policymakers and the Public

Today, former Senator John Breaux released the most recent episode of the Ceasefire on Health Care campaign podcast series, featuring commentary by former White House press secretaries Ari Fleischer and Mike McCurry. The two former White House spokesmen discuss communications' efforts designed to engage the public and policymakers on the pressing need for health care reform.

"Although not legislators or a pollster, today's guests, Ari Fleischer and Mike McCurry certainly have a lot of experience in communicating with the public," said Senator Breaux. "We all agree that bipartisanship is crucial in solving this complex policy crisis. Both Fleischer and McCurry urged lawmakers to put aside their biases to work together so that partisan obstacles standing in the way of meaningful reform can be overcome."

This eighth podcast episode is available today for download at http://www.ceasefireonhealthcare.org and posted through Yahoo!, Google, Odeo, PodNova and iTunes. The Ceasefire podcast series will be updated each Wednesday throughout the summer and fall until the elections in November, with each episode specifically focused on a different health care reform topic. In addition, the new Ceasefire blog, designed to supplement the podcast series and encourage online discussion about the most pressing health care reform trends and issues, will be posted each Tuesday and Thursday to the Ceasefire Web site.

Through the Ceasefire on Health Care campaign, Senator Breaux has held forums and discussions all over America with leading Republican and Democrat policymakers seeking ways to reform the system. The Ceasefire on Health Care campaign is sponsored by American University's Center for Congressional and Presidential Studies (CCPS).

Future podcasts will feature commentary from participants in previous Ceasefire bipartisan forums, including Senators Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Gordon Smith (R-OR); Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Congressman Joe Schwarz (R-MI-7) and later this fall, representatives from the AARP and the American Hospital Association.
